The viral battle for JioHotstar.com has reached an unexpected conclusion. What started as a Delhi developer’s bid to secure Cambridge University funding from Reliance has ended with a free transfer of the domain to Dubai siblings, Jainam and Jivika, in an act described as Seva.
A Delhi-based developer, identified as Ambujesh Yadav, has ended his fight over the JioHotstar.com domain against Reliance, citing legal and emotional challenges. While the website was expected to go offline, the narrative took a sharp turn involving young philanthropists from the UAE.
The incredible tussle between the app developer and Reliance over the JioHotstar.com domain seems to have ended. After beating the big company by securing the domain ahead of the much-awaited merger between JioCinema and Hotstar, the developer originally hoped to fund his tuition for Cambridge University funding. However, he has now announced a free transfer of the domain to Jainam and Jivika, the Dubai siblings known for their digital presence.
In a heartfelt article entitled “Thank You People on the Internet,” the author expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support of lawyers and philanthropists around the world. “To legal minds in London, California, Texas, and surprisingly even Berlin – I am still amazed at how this got to the German lawyers and your support means a lot to me,” he wrote. The transfer to the siblings was executed as “Seva” (service), ensuring the domain serves a positive purpose rather than becoming a commercial casualty.
Family problems and legal uncertainty
The plaintiff explained that while the focus on the domain battle helped him, it also caused great stress to his family. “My parents are reading the news, and they’re worried, actually super super worried. It shouldn’t have gone viral like that. They’ll probably deal with the legal battle anyway, brother. It’s very hard to convince parents. Good luck today.”
Despite advice from several legal experts that he should hold the domain, the developer concedes, handing the reins over to the next generation of digital custodians.
