Amazon is Developing Smart Glasses to Conceive Delivery Drivers in Logistics

As reported by people acquainted with the development, the company is designing smart glasses for delivery drivers that would help at the end of the delivery process. Known internally as “Amelia,” these glasses will employ a screen that will display turn-by-turn directions for the driver to avoid obstacles, navigate through buildings, and deliver the packages right at the doorstep. The primary aim of these glasses is to cut down delivery time by minimizing the use of handheld GPS devices.

Reducing The Expenses in the Last 100 Yards

The advancements in the looking glasses are a part of the plan to deal with the “last mile” challenge dominating the Amazon logistics chain. The further a product is from the ultimate destination addresses, the more expensive it becomes, with more than half of the cost of a product’s journey such as this being incurred within a length of one hundred yards, particularly when drivers are delivering goods to the doors. This comes at a time when Amazon has to restructure its operations because of high increase in shipping costs, which were 23.5 billion U.S. dollars in the last quarter. With competition hearing Walmart’s weapons programs on unleashing delivery benefits, Amazon believes that such smart glasses innovations will be gamechanger advantages.

Challenges and Future

On the other hand, the glasses have issues that limit their plausibility. There are technical constraints that may affect the launch of the smart glasses, such as battery capacity and the provision of extensive and precise mapping information. Finally, Amazon will have to convince some of its employees to wear the glasses, especially those who are already out wearing glares which may irritate them when driving. While the Echo Frames by the brand might have flopped sales wise to any extent, the company continues to surmount innovations in the delivery experience; future iterations of the designed glorified glasses aimed for sale to handlers may even arrive as early as 2026.
