On social media platform X (previously known as Twitter), OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted an apology after ChatGPT suffered an outage, affecting nearly 19,000 users. The disruption lasted for only 30 minutes but was sufficiently covered in the media, real-time outage site Downdetector reporting many users experiencing service failure within the period.
Gearing Up for Delays with a Commitment to Service
In his post, Altman admitted that OpenAI had made advances in the aspect of service reliability of ChatGPT, however, there is work ahead still. “ChatGPT went down for 30 mins today 🙁 we are much, much better at reliability than we used to be, but clearly more work in front of us,” he shared. As is the case with other services, Altman mentioned the level of stress that the growth of ChatGPT is causing, as it has recently become the 8th most visited site in the world as reported by Similarweb.
Another openai exit from Altman
In conclusion, Altman expressed his commitment to improving services, reducing service dowtime, and apologised for the disruption. OpenAI’s team is still working on optimizing the platform for the growing number of users in order to provide a better experience for each user.
